An Ongoing Conversation
His All-Holiness visited the Netherlands on the invitation of the Old Catholic Church, a long-standing ecumenical partner. As An Ongoing Conversation records, the impact of the visit went widely beyond the confines of the Church. Its main theme was the spiritual dimension as a richly compelling basis for the greening of society. This proved to be of appeal to a broad spectrum of academic, political, economic, and ecclesial leaders. They entered into a conversation with this bridge-builder who is passionate about protecting the natural environment. The new book enables a broader audience to benefit from the insights of His All-Holiness.
Critical Acclaim from Leaders in Church and Society The book has met with critical acclaim already, both from political and ecclesial leaders:
Climate change is high on everyone’s agenda today. Patriarch Bartholomew continues his faith-based dialogue on values. This in turn helps us and our motivation to overcome challenges to live more conscious and responsible lives. I am looking forward to this ongoing conversation. – H.R.H. Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Holy See
The Green Patriarch Bartholomew is a beacon of hope for all who care about the future of the earth. This book, An Ongoing Conversation, marks a moment and points a way forward. – Revd Dr. Arjan Plaisier, General Secretary of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands
The book was edited by Jan Jorrit Hasselaar, senior lecturer in Economics and Public Theology at CAH Vilentum College (Almere, Netherlands) and Peter-Ben Smit, chair of Ancient Catholic Church Structures at Utrecht University (Netherlands, on behalf of the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands.

|Samenvatting||Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, spiritual leader of 300 million Christians, is one of the leading and most inspiring religious voices in the global public square. Surprisingly, the Patriarch is little known in the West. Now certainly is the time to take notice of this man of joy, peace and wisdom; to enter into conversation with this bridge-builder who is passionate about protecting the natural environment. His All-Holiness Bartholomew I visited the Netherlands in 2014 for a broad discussion on theology, ecology, economy and politics. The fruits of the visit to the Netherlands have now been made available in a full-length book publication: An Ongoing Conversation: The Green Patriarch in the Netherlands. It contains various speeches by His All-Holiness and responses from key academics and politicians, including a former Prime Minister. There are impressions of the meetings with the Dutch king Willem-Alexander and the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans, at the moment Vice-President of the European Commission. The texts are accompanied by more than 200 photos. More than just a record of the diverse and memorable meetings that took place during the visit, this book aims to stimulate a fruitful and ongoing conversation among people in government, science, business, religion and society at large. The new book enables a broader audience to benefit from the insights of His All-Holiness.|
